All About The Concrete Color Pigment

By Kerri Stout

Although there are a lot of available natural materials like woods and metals, ready made concrete mixture is also readily available. However, this material still needs to be stained or coated. There are many methods to give life and color to this mixture.

The process of mixing comes in many possible ways. A concrete color pigment comes in many forms such as the granule, liquid and the powder. The powdered one will be placed in a bag called disintegrating bag so that it will be easily dissolved together with the mixture. It is a great many people working in this field, because it minimizes the chances of inhaling the powder, which is not good for the health.

The most popularly used color is the black. It can be used to create any shade of gray, either light or dark. It is widely used in many driveways, runways, roadways and parking lots, for it covers the stains from the oil produced by the vehicles that are passing through. It will absorb heat and reduce ice occurrence.

There are two sorts of a pigment, the iron oxide and the carbon. The carbon pigment gives a darker shade while the other gives a gray hue. But, the carbon sort will easily wear out over time compared to the other.

They also come in a liquid form. It is either a natural or synthetic form and it is usually measured in volume, similar to the measuring process of a paint. It will be put together with the material during the mixing process. The downside of a natural one is that it only offers earth tones. Synthetic on the other hand, offers almost all shades that you might know.

There are times that it results in hue differences, for example, having a different finishing and a curing method. It is recommended if you will minimize using a liquid one, due to the fact that it will cause uneven hue. It is highly recommended to use a water that contains salts and an aggregate. It will produce a white powdery outcome called the efflorescence.

Largely, you can have a granulated sort to be mixed with a dry to wet system metering. This one will be a cheaper strategy in making a liquid. Many businesses of concrete will buy a granule pigments and they will mix it up with water. It will be put into a tank and later it will be transferred to a mixing truck. This is a cheaper sort for it is much lighter than a liquid.

You have to know that there are a few techniques in coloring. One of the many techniques is the staining. It will be made right after the curing has set. There is also a technique called the rubbed stain, you will rub a fine powder form of color. After achieving the desired shade, a topical sealer will be applied to bind the coloring there. A resist technique is a process where you will be mixing and brushing hue and a sealant together. Both techniques require to be applied with a topical solution over time.

A method known as the color wash is a method same as the painting. It will be mixed with a water based solution. And when you obtain the appropriate hue, you will be brushing it with sealant. It will give you a great finish.
