Competition is not necessary, but instead, collaboration with others might become helpful. Learn more about courses and agendas in the community and see what other goals are.

Be positive. To demonstrate to them empathy, share some of your personal experience but never make it about yourself but about them. Do not waste their time by sharing your own experiences, challenges and struggles when you are still growing up. If they feel stuck, then change the way how they think or change their perspectives.

Identify the people that will served as mentors. Mentors are essential for implementing any kind of program. However, hiring just anyone will cut out the job but instead look for professionals or experienced mentors who have done similar jobs before. For instance, youth needs guidance and prevention from doing bad deeds, then hiring a religious mentor will help addressed the problem and find them solutions.

Discuss about the activities. Some teens are shy in giving their thoughts to others especially if they do not want to appear needy or rude. Some are even content to let the mentors decide what is good for them especially if the relationship is still in its earlier stages. Be sure to discuss decisions with mentees before deciding.
