Military refers to an organization with the responsibility to defend a country, as well as its citizens. Multiple branches exist within the organization, each of these has its own specific duties and purpose. Generally, people who have or do serve are considered commendable for their time and sacrifice. As with anything, there are pros and cons to enlisting. There are also different reasons to join the military that are expected to vary by individual.

A common reason that people sign up for this is because of the educational benefits. For a lot of people, college is an option that they would like to pursue, but may not fit in their budget without taking out multiple loans and utilizing financial aid. The American military is known to provide those who serve with the opportunity to get educated through various programs. These help pay for all or a portion of the cost of college.

Money may also drive a person to register. Even the entry-level positions available can offer a fair salary. The organization might also comp living arrangements. As an individuals becomes more experience, he or she may go up in ranking and be given a better salary and additional benefits.

This work may require going to combat and other strenuous tasks. Luckily, many service persons are given good medical coverage. It can be hard finding good plans for families and individuals. Said benefits usually come with no co-pays, deductibles or annual fees.

Overall, those who get involved do not usually consider it to be there be all, end all. Most people see it as a change to find reliable, steady work that is rewarding in many other aspects as well. It is also an opportunity to gain experience, discipline, direction and skills that can be applied in other situations. People who have served for a long period of time may retire in advance and start collecting pay and benefits.

Some individuals join just for an experience. Most service people get to travel and might even take up residence at a military station in another country. This allows for exposure to new things and cultures. The work done while enlisted may be applied in other jobs as well.

These are not the only reasons for enlisting. Some do this to keep with family tradition. Others are interested in just giving back. Camaraderie may be a reason for certain individuals. In fact, there are a lot of people who end up finding close friends and spouses while they are enlisted. Not everyone needs a substantial reason to join and there are people who do so just to learn who they are and attempt something different and new.

There might be many different reasons to join the military. Every person signs up for his or her own purpose. Sometimes this is a career move or to get a better education. Other times it is about the stable benefits and money that come with military involvement. There are even persons who do it just to meet new people, collect memories, take on new skills and gain valuable experience. Whatever the reasoning, the decision should ultimately be made by the individual who would be signing up.
