Can This Be The Second Coming

By Leticia Jensen

Many people ask themselves the question: Can this be the Second Coming? Fortunately, there's a way to get the answer before any damage is done or opportunity missed. This event is announced in the Bible, with enough details to eliminate any impostor or catastrophe. Along with other good news, scripture holds answers to today's questions.

Luke, in his gospel, quotes Jesus as saying that He will be like lightning, visible from one end of the sky to the other. He also says that His followers should not go running after people who are claiming to have found the returned Lord. This will be an arrival that is hard to miss, highly visible and very powerful. Don't worry that you will be in one place while Jesus is in another.

Other clues can be taken from accounts from people who went to Heaven and returned to tall the story. Perhaps you think these accounts and even the Bible are not true, but then why are you looking for Jesus? Eyewitness accounts are our best source of information, as any court of law will tell you.

People who've gone to Heaven had no trouble recognizing Jesus. Like His disciples during the time between His resurrection and His ascension, they see Him as He was on earth, with nail holes in His hands and love in His eyes. He told his followers that His sheep know His voice, and so it is. Only those who have not surrendered their lives to Him and believe His Word will mistake another for the Lord.

The tribulation occurs before the Lord's return. If you're living in peace and safety, with good health and plenty of food, the return of Jesus is probably at least seven years away. We already have wars and rumors of war, strange weather, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other early warning signs, but no seven 'last plagues' as yet. Read the Book of Revelation.

It's not only the good guy that will display signs and wonders, so don't take supernatural happenings as proof. The Bible tells us that many will come claiming to be the Christ, deceiving even believers with their 'miracles'. Jesus's signs were based on love, as He restored sight to the blind and mobility to the crippled, cleansed the lepers, calmed the waters to save His disciples, and fed the masses who came out to hear His teachings.

Jesus spoke of spiritual kingdoms and principles. He was not a world leader or a local ruler. He had 'no place to lay His head' except by the kindness of strangers. A band of twelve men were His entourage. If a man chases after worldly power, has a lot of money he doesn't give to the poor, and talks of provision other than that of God, he's probably not the savior.

'Is this the Second Coming?' is a legitimate question. We're to be on the watch for His return. However, heed the scriptures and wait for the one who comes riding on a white horse and the clouds, heralded by loud trumpets and with a heavenly host of followers.
