Sites of archaeological finds, history and cultural items and photographs from the Dena'ina are held within the museum and you can't forget about a token of your adventure here at the gift shop.

At the Historical Society Museum you can view the many forms of wildlife found here past and present. There is also a log village that is historical which includes the last of the schools of the territory which still houses the lanterns of gas they used for light during their lessons. You can see exactly how the first homesteaders to this area lived by way of the artifacts and the photos on display here.

See the historical Iditarod Trail and walk upon it and learn all about how the Alaskan Railroad came to be at KMTA National Heritage. This community still is home to some historical and colorful people ready to share their stories and legends of the Alaskan frontier with you. Some say that there are a lot of ghosts of settlers from days past still here as well.

To see wildlife up close and personal as well as sparkling glaciers and the beauty of many Alaskan lakes then take a drive down the 18 mile loop of Skilak Lake West Entrance. You will be able to get some great shots of the animals and the landscapes within this area of the Kanai Peninsula. For the best rainbow trout fishing look no further than the Upper Ohmer Lake Overlook area.
