Naples Psychologist Helps Couples With Marriage Counseling Solutions

By Donna Beley

If one partner in a marriage is not happy, she may want to discuss it. Her spouse may disagree. By speaking with a Naples psychologist, they can begin to improve the relationship by recognizing the existing problem.

Unless it is confronted, one of two things will happen. It will either remain unresolved or get worse. Usually it is beneficial for both partners to attend the sessions for counseling.

If only one partner is willing to see a marriage counselor, it can still benefit the marriage. Mutual agreement to attend sessions is preferable. However, the wife may gain valuable insight if attending alone.

The psychologist may begin by asking questions to help determine the main point of contention between husband and wife. Body language as well as words will divulge the extent of the problem. The psychologist will have an idea of how long counseling may take after one or two introductory sessions.

A sexual disorder is sensitive and difficult to talk about. One or both partners may have intimacy issues. It is not always easy to make sex a priority. However it should be an important part of the relationship.

A sexless marriage is unlikely to be a good one. The inability to have a healthy physical intimacy may be due to an inability to build a healthy emotional intimacy. Another barrier to sex is poor health.

Lack of sexual contact can often be attributed to an underlying cause. Counseling can help bring awareness of that cause. If it can be understood, it may lead to a resolution of the sexual coldness.

A childhood incident of sexual molestation can result in the inability to enjoy sex. The spouse may not know about the abuse. When it is revealed, the other partner may be more tolerant.

An accidental injury or physical health problem is another possible cause. If one partner takes medication, that may lead to a lack of libido. But, the major barrier to sexual intimacy is the inability to communicate with each other.
