How GPS Machine Control Models Work

By Lois Evans

Machinery used for road works need Global Positioning System or GPS in order to accurately locate what needs to be removed by the grader to make construction and engineering works a lot easier. This will also make the work of operators of heavy equipment a lot easier. Furthermore, this makes the entire work faster and more efficient.

The design blueprint can be done in CAD, it can be converted into 3D designs that represent a more realistic image of the site. GPS machine control models are designed by engineers to aid in making the site plans more accurate. This is a very advanced engineering innovation that will help increase productivity minus the labor.

A great deal of energy, fuel and human effort will be conserved with this system and it is very earth friendly as well. Without the GPS, the heavy equipment may cause damages that may take time to fix because these are really huge machines. The model will serve as the guide of machine operators, with the help of professional surveyors, to everything done on or before schedule. Contractors, engineers, architects, and surveyors need to coordinate so that all the available systems used in the project will correspond.

Frameworks like surveying infrastructures are also needed as they serve as the guide for all the earth work needed. The machines used are really gigantic, so if they do not have a precise guide, they may cause a lot of wreckage to the site. The model will automatically shift the blades of the grader to the areas designated in the plan.

Design plans are required to make the models function properly. These are done by engineers who often refer to ready made plans through CAD files. They use a software to make 3D versions of the CAD site plans. But before they do so, they still have to recheck the CAD files for errors. To get things done in an accurate and precise manner, experts are needed.

The process includes triangulation. This works by showing meticulously estimated measurements and angles of elevated locations in the construction site. The model shows the triangulated surface or the TIN and this is what the operator will follow as guide as the grader moves.

CAD data may not be that reliable. Hence, designers have to clarify the details from CAD files, analyze it, make a triangular model, and modify the errors if there are any. Then, they will make 3D and two dimensional versions.

The GPS model, although very dependable, may take time before it is completed. Every work plan must coincide first before the whole process is finalized and realized. The moment the professional will detect mistakes in the plan, they will have to change it as soon as possible. If not, the goal of getting the work done on or before schedule will be wasted.

Using this technological advancement, construction industries can become confident that their income returns will be satisfactory. The most advanced and experienced designers are the ones who can do this job faster without compromising the quality. Thus, construction industries must invest properly to achieve the best construction outcome.
