Why Is It Important To Reduce Racism In Sports Media

By Tammie Caldwell

One of the evil things in this world that should be done away is racial prejudice. People already know at the bottom of their hearts that racial prejudice is unpleasant and that it does not contribute to people's growth. However, even when they know that, situations where people look down on others are still prevalent nowadays.

Even when you look at the world where athletes are, you can see a lot of situations where racial prejudice has become evident. It does not matter if the sport is basketball, soccer, golf, or ice hockey, racial prejudice is there. Such discrimination hurts not only the players but the fans as well. Not only that, there is also racism in sports media.

People should move toward the reduction or total elimination of racial prejudice. Otherwise, there will be consequences that will arise because of that. People should understand that nothing good comes out of racial prejudice. Here are some of the reasons why it is very important to reduce or eliminate racial prejudice.

First, racial prejudice is a factor impeding or preventing people subjected to racial prejudice from achieve their full potential as human beings. Through the discrimination of those who think they are superior, they will think that they lack something as a person. No matter who it is who gets subjected to discrimination, it can be really disheartening.

It is also the reason that impedes or prevents people from giving their fullest contribution to society. As a citizen of a country and as a human being, it is one's responsibility to contribute to the progress of society. However, when these people are suffering from the prejudice of the society itself, they will not be able to contribute what they should be able to.

Since the victims are not able to provide any contributions to the society because of the discriminating behaviors against them, the ones who discriminated will also be affected. They are unable to enjoy the possible benefits that should have been given to them when their targets contributed to the society. The community can then weaken when there is no one fully contributing to its progress.

Since not all people are built to tolerate painful words and situations for a long time, there is a high likelihood of retaliation. When the ill-will behind the discrimination against the victims become too much for the latter to burden, they will oftentimes prefer to retaliate. It would be bad if people took up violence against others.

Being in a democratic country, discrimination against anyone should not be done. Discrimination can very easily go against the democratic ideals that a democratic government promotes. That is why it is only a given to reduce the racial prejudice in a democratic country as much as possible, if elimination of that racial prejudice is not likely.

Racial prejudice should also be eliminated because it is illegal. It does not matter what country it is, what state one belongs to, what religion one devotes himself or herself in, racial prejudice is unpleasant. That is why it should be reduced or totally eliminated. People will get along better that way.
