The period of craving for alcohol can be lengthy and painful for some people. Therefore being equipped with coping tools and methods is important for long term success. If you are an alcoholic who has been drinking heavily for a long period of time, you need to ask for your doctor's suggestion before stopping in order to help you through withdrawal and detox. Others will only experience minor physical pain. Most alcoholics have gone through this a time or two on their own. But the physical cravings can last for years. You Need a Support Group

12 Step Meetings is a great place to meet others who have gone through the same thing you're experiencing. Searching for 12 Step meetings in your neighborhood can get you started. Different meetings draw different individuals. If you can't go to ninety meetings within 90 days then just try to attend as many meetings as you could. In these meetings, you will be given important info about quitting.

You will realize that its worth it when you have reached this point. Now its time to start a new life. One that doesn't include drinking liquor.
