The Multiple Benefits Of Herbal Medicine

By Henry Cooper

Whether using traditional western medicine or alternative forms of healing, health care can often be expensive. While this is the case, there are often a number of benefits of herbal medicine over prescriptions. For, in a number of cases, prescription medication can often be addictive.

As most of these natural remedies have been around for centuries, it is clear that most are as safe, if not safer than prescription drugs. In some cases, it may be necessary to visit a holistic health care giver to know which products might work best for various needs. Whereas, when looking for those which can alleviate pain, or help calm nerves, someone working in a health food store or herbal outlet can often provide this information.

If an individual is taking prescription medication, it is important to tell the doctor or salesperson about same. For, while natural, there are times when herbs and prescription drugs can have dangerous interactions. As such, it is imperative to provide as much information as to the medication which one is taking before adding an herbal supplement to an ongoing health care regiment.

With the onset of modern health care and prescription medicine, alternative, holistic and natural health care often goes by the wayside. Whereas, in many situations, these natural medicines and treatments could often be more beneficial than those prescribed by health care professionals now working in western medicine. In addition, while there might very well be a good reason to implement some aspect of medical tests to determine a condition, there are many individuals paying for tests which have nothing to do with the illness or injury at hand.

It is unfortunate that many in western medicine refuse to tell patients about these alternatives simply due to getting kick backs from drug companies. For, in many cases the drugs which health care providers are prescribing can often be addictive with a number of side effects. As such, many of these side effects and addictions could be rectified through the use of alternative medication and treatment.

A number of health care professionals are now starting to consider the use of some natural medications in light of the current opioid epidemic. While this is the case, the general public, especially those used to taking pain killers and anti-depressants are still reluctant to make this change. At the same time, as new regulations are being placed on health care providers as to how often and how much of these medications can be prescribed, many more individuals may be looking towards natural alternatives in the future.

Until more people realize that these alternatives can and do eliminate pain and have the ability to calm nerves, there is no doubt prescription medication will still be at the forefront. However, it should be noted that stigmas about the medical profession and medication can be removed when more people report positive experiences with these natural alternatives. Overall, when using natural alternatives there are often no harmful side effects, many often cost far less than prescription drugs while most all herbal medications use the natural healing aspect of the body.

There are a number of benefits when it comes to holistic and natural medication. These include a reduction in cost, the lack of side effects and the fact that elements found in most products are part of the natural chemistry of the body. Whereas, others may be developed from various plants and flowers which provide an herbal healing effect without the possibility of addiction. Ultimately, one of the best benefits of this type alternative is that there is no need for a prescription or to request renewals from a medical provider.
