Phillip Island
Phillip Island is an easy trip to the free form of Melbourne. If you want, you can stay on the island with many different lodging options, including hotels, motels, apartments and bed and breakfast. There is much to do on the island, with shops, restaurants, outdoor swimming, fishing, cycling and famous penguin parade, which takes place at dusk. In addition to visiting wineries in the area hosts many festivals and special events throughout the year. With community festivals, live music concerts with renowned artists and racing rally car, there is plenty for everyone. Stay in a comfortable bed and breakfast, if you feel you need to stay longer, good food in a restaurant located in a winery and visit the City of Yarra Glen.
Healesville
Healesville is just a short 65 km from the city center. The city itself is steeped in history and has beautiful shops to please visitors who love sailing and a little shopping. Guests can dine in the Old Healesville Hotel, where they have an outdoor bar, restaurant or cafe. A visit to Healesville Sanctuary is a must, where a variety of birds and animals native to Australia.
Flinders
Start early and go to the Mornington Peninsula, which is a little more than fifty miles from Melbourne. Enjoy a visit to Red Hill Paringa Estate Winery, or choose the good weekend and go to the market of Red Hill. Visit Australia's oldest maze hedge Ashcombe Maze and walk through the gardens of lavender. There is also a beautiful pink circular labyrinth. Head to the beach where you can swim in the bay or catch a wave on the ocean coast.
Daylesford
If you like to be pampered, then Daylesford is the perfect place to spend a day. Reserve in Hepburn Springs Spa and enjoy a massage or a relaxing beauty treatment. Visit mineral springs that dot the area and enjoy the shops along the main street. A trip to Daylesford is not complete without stopping at the lake house for lunch where you can enjoy a meal of local produce. There is an art gallery in the convent where you can see works of local and international artists, or take a walk in the state park at the summit of Mount Franklin. The area is rich in history from the days of the gold mines, and there are many places to stay if you want to stop, including many bed and breakfasts and farm stays around. For chocolate lovers trip is not complete without a visit to the chocolate factory, which is just outside of the city.
