Communication Consulting Austin Local Facts

By Tara Daniels

Now that you've landed your dream job in communication consulting Austin, you are ready to do your homework about the area so that you can scope out where you want to live. Austin is the capital of Texas and the second-largest capital city in the country. The Colorado River runs through the city, making it a very desirable place to live.

At the end of Town Lake, a small branch of the river, lies Zilker Metropolitan Park. The 350-acre public recreational facility was named after Andrew Jackson Zilker, who donated the land for the park. Now, the park is filled with amenities including a botanical garden, a miniature train and a swimming pool. Events such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Zilker Park kite vestival take place here. In 2006, it was the venue for a concert by the Rolling Stones. Adjacent to the park is Lady Bird Lake. Residences in the area are convenient for both the highway and the river.

Just beside Lady Bird Lake is Auditorium Shores another popular public park. Every year, it holds an annual festival called South by Southwest (SXSW), a ten-day conference incorporating film and music festivals. Auditorium Shores is a haven for dog lovers, with a nearby park where peoples' companions can run free while their owners enjoy a drink and a spectacular view of the Austin skyline.

Apartments in Auditorium Shores connect with Highway 1 via Barton Springs Road. This area is handy for crossing the river into northeast Austin with bridges on Lamar Boulevard, First Street and Congress Avenue. The Lady Bird Lake Trail offers a footbridge for pedestrians.

Homes are nice in the northwest quadrant formed by the intersection of Interregional Highway 290 (I-35) and the Colorado River. The neighborhood is home to a middle school and the Capitol Building of the State of Texas. West of State Highway 183 and south of the river like Montopolis Park, Pleasant Valley and the Riverside Golf course.

Near to the MoPac Expressway and the north/south section of the river is Tarrytown. Homes here are less closely packed than they are nearer the city center. Local amenities include Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve as well as an elementary school. The expressway is a contraction of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, one of the first railway companies in the United States.

Georgetown, the red poppy capital of Texas, lies approximately 30 miles north of Austin about half an hour's drive up Interstate 35. Georgetown is nowhere near the Colorado River but it does have less than half the population density of the state capital. Films shot either entirely or partly within Georgetown include "Michael, " released in 1996 and starring John Travolta, "Varsity Blues, " and "Where the Heart Is."

Communication consulting Austin is a rewarding career in a highly desirable area of the country. Residents are young, with a median age of 30. There are plenty of homes to choose from, each neighborhood with a character and feel of its own. The area offers convenient transport links and plenty of green space.
