An Introduction To Swiss Chronograph Watches

By Humberto Braga

With accuracy of inside 1/8 of a second, the IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph's automatic winding function is extremely precise and measures periods of time for as much as 30 minutes. The watch has a traditional chronograph display.

The special under-dial mechanism of IWC has enabled the sub-dials to be vertically laid-out. Further, this Automatic Chronograph watch has a 44-hour energy reserve.

The chronograph hands are created of blue steel as a way to distinguish them from the hands that show the time.

The watch does not come with a date display. It has a seconds sub-dial towards the bottom of the face, and has a 79350 Caliber for the customized Valjoux 7750 movement.

The case of the IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph consists of steel, 18K rose gold, 18K white gold and 18K yellow gold. This case is 41 millimeters. The dial colors vary based on the case; black, graphite or silver. The watch also has a cabochon minute track and also the hands are leaf-shaped.

The intricately-crafted three-piece case with an attractive dial and Guilloche sub-dials depict a fine and bright writing. Its polished stainless steel bezel has a dome-shaped sapphire crystal.

A gorgeous, fine but powerful crocodile wrist band is attached towards the case which is constructed of stainless steel. Up to water depths of 60 meters the watch is water-resistant.

A hit with watch enthusiasts of chronograph and Portuguese watches, the IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph is far more suited to older individuals because of its standard, time-less appearance.

Because of its sheer luxury and limited editions, the IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph is an extremely well-known watch and is considered to be a peer to the other high-end watches for example Pilot and Da Vinci.
